Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry - Farm Winery Study

Based on a directive from the Virginia General Assembly, the Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry convened a stakeholder panel consisting of individuals representing 19 organizations with interests relating to Virginia farm wineries and activities. IEN’s role was to facilitate the stakeholder panel deliberations for developing recommendations. As part of this work, key IEN activities included: 1) development of an online constituency survey to identify key issues and concerns, as well as possible approaches to address issues and concerns, and 2) online research resulting in a compilation of farm winery ordinances and other local approaches taken by localities where farm wineries are located. The final report to the Governor and General Assembly, dated November 1, 2017, contained six consensus recommendations from the stakeholder panel relating to farm winery events, noise, traffic, and viability.
