Chesapeake Bay Roundtable: Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act

(1986-1987) IEN facilitated the Chesapeake Bay Land-Use Roundtable, an endeavor funded by the Virginia General Assembly and convened to develop consensus for a clear set of policies and programs to guide land use planning and development around the Bay. The recommendations resulting from the 18-month Roundtable served as a basis for the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act. This work was the precursor to more than a dozen Bay-related projects for IEN and to its current work on coastal resilience in the Commonwealth.

George Washington National Forest

The IEN facilitated a working group to enhance public involvement with the National Forest Management Plan's most recent revision. Similar work has been conducted in Tennessee, Indiana, and other forests located in Virginia.

South Carolina Wetlands Steering Committee

(1989-1990) A collaborative negotiation process facilitated by the IEN for over eighteen months, in which representatives of the EPA, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Health and Environmental Concerns, home builders, wetland consultants, and industry leaders in forestry, mining and agriculture met monthly to develop recommendations for wetland permitting procedures.

Uranium Mining Task Force

(1984 - 1985) The Uranium Mining Task Force was created by the Coal and Energy Commission of the Virginia state legislature in January 1984 to address the risk and economic consequences of allowing uranium mining in the state. National Non-Point Source Strategy

(1998) IEN facilitated a strategy development process for the implementation of new EPA policies aimed at making state and local more efficient in the use of available resources.

National Non-Point Source Pollution

IEN facilitated an interagency strategic planning workshop for offices coordinating non-point source pollution efforts in the state.

St. Marys, Georgia Historic Waterfront

(1994) IEN brought together the National Park Service, the Georgia State Historic Preservation Office, local officials, and residents to formulate a cohesive plan to revitalize St. Marys historic waterfront and to better accommodate visitors to Cumberland Island National Seashore.

Virginia State Generic Management Plan for Pesticides and Ground Water

(1988 - 1992)  IEN facilitated a year-long process for a task force composed of twelve Virginia state agencies to develop a state plan for protecting ground water from pesticides.
