September 19-21, 2012
Learn about foundational communication skills for effective conflict resolution,
structured dialogue, and your own personality style. Stakeholder panels on
environmental justice and the Shenandoah National Park’s legacy of human
displacement.

Session 2 | Suffolk
November 7-9, 2012
Learn core group facilitation skills and your own conflict management and
leadership style. Stakeholder panels and a boat field trip on the economics of
sustainability, Chesapeake Bay water quality, fisheries, and sea level rise.

Session 3 | Richmond
January 9-11, 2013
Learn three phases of consensus building, “Six Thinking Hats” process, key
leadership qualities. Stakeholder panels and field trips on the ethics of advocacy
lobbying, Virginia’s Capitol, and current challenges in local government.

Session 4 | Shenandoah Valley
March 13-15, 2013
Prepare and participate in a principled negotiation and learn about servant
leadership. Stakeholder panels and field trips on sustainable agriculture, water
quality, TMDLs, and corporate sustainability.

Session 5 | Southwest Virginia
April 24-26, 2013
Learn best practices for public involvement and leadership without easy answers.
Stakeholder panels and field trips on the economics of extractive and renewable
resources, community revitalization, coal mining reclamation, and Clinch River
regional collaboration.

Session 6 | Charlottesville
June 5-7, 2013
Learn the “Open Space” process and refine your personal leadership goals.
Stakeholder panels and field trips on valuing ecosystem services and the current
hot topics of the VNRLI class’s choice.
